2002 End of Year Wrap Up
Posted By lssilver on Thursday, December 26 2002 at 11:02 AM
Darren has had modest success in Australia despite the press often talking about him in a negative light. Singles wise Insatiable was the third highest charting Australian single (behind Kasey Chambers and Holly Valance).
During 2002 Darren has released 3 singles - Insatiable, Strange Relationship and Crush (1980 Me). They have all been top 20 hits. Insatiable was a Top 5 hit, debuting at #3 on the charts in late January.
Darren kicked off his successful 'Too Close For Comfort Tour' in Australia. Unfortunately he became ill after the first show, forcing him to cancel 3 shows due to illness. Later in the tour shows in South East Asia were postponed due to terrorist threats related to the Bali Bombings.
In the UK Darren has had huge success. Spin debuted at #2 on the UK albums chart (almost #1 but last minute sales of other cds prevented this from happening). So far it has sold over 1 million copies in the UK alone. He has also had success in many other European countries.
The Too Close for Comfort Tour ...
Despite cancelling 3 shows in Australia, 1 of the Moscow shows (due to the hostage crisis in Russia) and most of South East Asia the Too Close For Comfort tour was highly successful, especially in the UK and Europe where Darren played to sellout crowds. Unlike previous Savage Garden tours, this show was much more simple, without the extravagence. Darren mixed in songs from Spin with Savage Garden hits to produce an amazing experience for all the fans that attended. To see photos and reviews from the tour visit the TCFC Microsite.

Graham Norton Cancelled
Posted By lssilver on Tuesday, December 10 2002 at 3:09 PM
Darren has cancelled his appearance on the Graham Norton show due to illness. Below is the message from Darren that was posted on the D-Zine site:
Unfortunately I'm not going to be performing on Graham Norton. I have, very annoyingly, come down again with a viral laryngitis which will prevent me from singing for at least a week. I have been fighting off a flu but was able to sing fine for the first few days of promo. After the Capital Christmas live performance I felt the symptoms were moving towards my throat and when I woke up on Saturday I could barely speak. I've seen two doctors and it's official. I am not allowed to sing. I'm fine, just frustated. It's one of those situations that if I sing I could probably sound o.k but risk damaging my voice permanently. My performance is going to go ahead on the GMTV as this can be fully mimed (something I hate doing) but Graham's show is something, like Letterman in the u.s, that is all about being fully live. Because I'm not physically able to do that, we are going to have to appear on the show some other time.
I'm dissapointed but just wanted to apologize to anyone who was looking forward to seeing the show.
On a brighter note, I really did have such a great time at Top Of The Pops AND Capital. My spirit was in it, even if my body at times wasn't.
Thanks for all your support, love and best wishes and just know that I love you all.
xxxDarren
